Flickman Update: April 12
A couple things I'm thinking about...
Oh, how I’ve missed the way the keyboard feels on my fingertips. My apologies for being absent from the blog for so long, but I’ve got good reasons.
Every January I choose one word to be the north star of the coming year. My mantra. Something that I can repeat to myself out loud as I walk down the street that will make strangers question my sanity.
The word usually revolves around something in my life that I want to change. And for 2022 I chose the word ACTION. I was unhappy with how quickly my life was progressing 4 months ago and I realized that I was doing a lot of reading / writing / analyzing, but not a ton of doing. And I’ve found that doing is what leads to opportunities and progress.
So this year I’ve been focusing on stepping up to the plate and taking more action in my life. Long story short, I’ve had a lot of new opportunities and experiences because of this new mindset, which has been amazing. However, I’ve had less time to sit down and deliver profound gems of wisdom to my 83 subscribers on this blog. And for that, I apologize.
With that being said, I want to revamp the blog. Resurrect it, if you will. But I want to do it in a way that allows me to write a little more consistently.
So instead of doing deep dives into one topic per blog, I’m going to just write weekly (hopefully) updates on what I’m thinking about, what I’m up to, and questions I’ve been asking myself that you might consider asking yourself as well.
How does that sound? Good? Good. Great.
So without further ado adieu ado, I present the first Flickman Update Newsletter Extravaganza (better name TBA).
A Quote to Ponder
If you haven’t checked out Naval yet, stop what you are doing and go read through his Twitter. He’s got an amazing way of thinking and an incredible ability to break down complex topics into simple ideas.
I like this tweet a lot. It simplifies the whole concept of intelligence down to what really matters. Did you get what you wanted out of life? Because if you were really that intelligent, then you probably would have spent time solving one of life’s most precious pursuits: getting what you want out of it.
Some Thoughts I've been Nibbling On
Ideas in motion. I have roughly 342 brilliant ideas every day (these numbers are self-reported). The problem with brilliant ideas is that they are incredibly cheap and easy to come by. I’ve found that the ideas that really matter come when you are in motion; when you are in the trenches working on a project, when you are building something, etc. They don’t come from the sidelines. Fans don’t get to call the shots when it’s 4th & Goal and the game is on the line. You’ve got to be in the game.
Reading vs. doing. These past several months I have barely touched a book. Usually, I like to read every day, but I found that sometimes I confuse reading with doing. And weirdly enough when I started doing more, I had less time to read, which I’m okay with for the time being.
Momentum is one hell of a drug. It’s funny how life works. It seems like as soon as you start kicking up some dirt, opportunities will find you. And then those opportunities can lead to other opportunities. You can then use that momentum as a source of inspiration and fuel to keep on moving. It’s a very powerful thing.
The seasons of life. I like to think of life in seasons. Different seasons involve different people, places, goals, outcomes, etc. But if you are ever feeling down and out, maybe it’s time to start a new season. Make a move. Add a new habit to your life. Decide to be somebody else for your next season. Who knows what could happen.
A Question to ask Yourself
What is something that you are trying to get better at right now? If there isn’t anything, maybe consider finding something.
Wrap Up
Let me know what you guys think of this new blog style! I’ll share more updates in the weeks to come but I’m glad to have a place to start writing again. Hope you’re all having a great week.
Until next time,
Flickman

Another good one Matt…looking forward to the next one.
