Flickman Media Is Dead
It’s time for a change…
All good things must come to an end, and my freelance business, cordially known as Flickman Media, is no different. It is with mixed feelings that I must tell you it has been laid to rest. While Flickman Media never made it “to the moon” and it also didn’t “land among the stars” as was promised by all the cliches, I still consider it a success. She lasted a good year and a half and taught me more about business and myself than any classroom or teacher ever could have. I’ll tell you the reasoning behind this decision, but first we need to clarify something.
Flickman vs. Flickman Media
Flickman is my personal brand. The one you know and love. You hear that moniker and you think cunning, smart, handsome, humble, philanthropist, entrepreneur, marketing wizard, breadwinner, bitcoin, etc. These are just some of the subliminal messages that I’ve been planting in my friends/families heads secretly over the past several years. Flickman is here to stay. I will continue to work to refine my personal brand, create content, and share my learnings and creations. In fact, this blog is part of it!
Flickman Media simply refers to my client-facing videography freelance business. I will no longer be taking on clients as Flickman Media and I have transitioned the old Flickman Media website to my new website flickman.co, which will be a hub for all parts of my personal brand.
How could you do this to us?
I know what you’re thinking, how could I just give up and throw my hopes and dreams into a garbage can? Isn’t there a way to persevere and build Flickman Media into the media empire it deserves to be? Think about the future generations of Flickman Media employees! How could you do this do them?
To answer this melodramatic line of questioning I’d like to inform you that this is quite an intentional decision. I’m not moving on because Flickman Media wasn’t working. In fact, I was really starting to hit my stride pre-covid. The reason I’m moving on is because I realized that there are better, more efficient ways to build my empire, ways that don’t align the freelance structure of Flickman Media. Building a company around my own skillset leaves very little room for me to pull myself out of it and thus makes it terribly hard to scale. I just learned of this cool concept called an employee, which is basically an individual that you compensate in exchange for their labor of love. Or just normal labor.
I realized that if I can build a company around an idea or around the skillset of a team that’s more talented than I am, then I can focus on just building and growing the company and not actually doing all the work. I also realized that freelance life can be quite lonely and that I needed to form some partnerships in order to go further.
Okay big shot, then what is the plan now?
Great question. I didn’t blindly decide to end my freelance business, I had been in talks with starting up another business with some partners for several months leading up to the jump. Options are power, so I wanted to make sure that I had my next plan lined up before making the move.
So now might be a good time to formally announce the new company that I have started with several business partners. It’s an idea agency called ONEDAY.
Wtf is an idea agency? Another great question, you’ve got a real gift for question asking. We originally were going to brand ourselves as a marketing agency, but quickly realized that the traditional approach to marketing agencies is quite boring and overplayed. So we have been working on a model that is a bit different. Instead of offering broad, adaptable services we are working to create niched down product/service offerings that are unique to our company. That way, you won’t have any other options if you want the type of work we create. We will be in our own lane and that will give us leverage when selling. We are currently working on our first offering and I’ll be able to announce that as we finish it. Until then, you can checkout our website.
Thank you so much for reading this. I apologize for my blog absence, we have been quite busy building the new company, but this is something I want to make a habit of so I will try to do more of these.
Per usual, if you haven’t subscribed yet, please do that here:
